January 2024

My writing journey kicked off on January 23, inspired by a refreshing run that motivated me to share my experience. I felt an unusual urge to put my thoughts into words for an online audience, and I’m thankful that I did. My second article, titled "5 Things About Me Challenge," marked my first real engagement, thanks to The Writer's Path for their early encouragement. By the end of January, I had penned three additional articles, one of which—"For Those That Believe"—remains a proud moment for me.

February 2024

February proved to be a challenging month as I was still navigating the world of online writing. I attempted a daily writing challenge, but the pressure quickly became overwhelming, leading me to halt it prematurely. However, I did write an article that I cherish—"Meaning Is To Be Found In Creating." It earned me my first revenue on Medium ($0.89), and since then, it has continued to generate earnings, totaling around $8.

March 2024

March mirrored February in terms of my scattered writing efforts. Many articles went unnoticed, yet I persisted. A pivotal moment occurred when I discovered the power of publications, leading to a significant breakthrough. An article titled "I Went To Work Zombified By Drugs" gained unexpected traction, earning me $8.95 overnight. By the month’s end, I had accumulated $15.25, marking a substantial win for me.

April 2024

April was a mixed bag; some articles thrived while others flopped. Despite the looming threat of burnout, I remained consistent and ended the month with $16.77 in earnings—similar to March.

May 2024

May stands out as my most successful month on Medium. I kicked it off with my highest-earning article, "Am I Too Stingy With My Follows?" which garnered over $13 and received more than 1,300 claps! I continued to publish regularly, and several pieces earned me over $3. Overall, it was a fulfilling month, culminating in earnings of $52.19.

June 2024

I began June with a break, not publishing my first article until June 6 due to burnout. However, upon my return, I launched two articles, "I Took a Week Off From Medium—It Was The Best Choice I Have Made" and "About Me—James Moore," both of which were well-received, earning nearly $18. There were ups and downs, including an embarrassing attempt at creating a publication titled "Creator Reborn," which I abandoned after a week. I ended June with my highest earnings yet—$54.28.

July 2024

July was undoubtedly my toughest month. I was frustrated with a Medium update and expressed my discontent in an article titled "I HATE The Medium Update." My writing inspiration waned, and I struggled to find motivation, resulting in minimal earnings of $20.08.

August 2024

August marked a remarkable turnaround. I found my writing groove again, focusing on personal enjoyment rather than audience expectations. My consistency paid off, with earnings stabilizing between $0.60 and $4 per article. Following an algorithm update that benefitted many writers, I finished the month with over 500 followers and an anticipated earning of around $45, regaining my momentum after the difficult July.

Reflecting on my Medium journey serves as both a personal reminder and a guide for newcomers. It illustrates the realistic ups and downs one might encounter while writing, showcasing the wins and losses alike. After 150 articles, I’ve garnered 520 followers and over $200 in cumulative earnings. I’ve made plenty of rookie mistakes that others can avoid.

Imagine the possibilities if you were to write 150 articles! And what might I accomplish with another 150? The only way to find out is to keep writing!
