Initially, I wasn't overly optimistic. While it's not a magical solution that instantly boosts productivity, its unique soundtracks genuinely help me concentrate more effectively, especially in distracting environments.

It's important to note that there’s no universal productivity strategy that suits everyone. Each individual has unique working styles and goals. However, I believe certain habits can significantly enhance the likelihood of success for anyone willing to incorporate them into their routines. Journaling stands out as one such habit, a concept popularized by Charles Duhigg in his book, "The Power of Habit." He describes keystone habits as small changes that lead to broader improvements across various life aspects.
I've maintained a journaling practice for years, becoming more consistent when I started blogging almost three years ago. My journaling system includes a dotted notebook for jotting down ideas and tasks. To ensure a regular practice, I prefer digital journaling, which offers the benefit of automatic organization by date or theme, making it easy to manage years' worth of entries without physical clutter.

I originally used the Webtime Tracker but switched to TimeYourWeb for its ability to log time even when my mouse is inactive, which often occurs while watching videos.
I prefer the "Stacked" view mode for a clear visual representation of my online time usage. This extension has been instrumental in helping me confront my YouTube consumption, which can consume up to 40% of my online hours.
Chapter 5: Streamlining Research with Typed
Typed is a remarkable writing and research tool that revolutionized my content management workflow. It offers a split-screen interface, allowing me to view my writing on one side while accessing sources and references on the other. Clicking on a link opens the source in the same window, enabling me to highlight content while continuing to write in the middle column.
Additionally, Typed features a Chrome extension that simplifies saving relevant research material with just one click. You can categorize sources for easy organization, enhancing my overall productivity.
Final Thoughts on Productivity Tools
If there’s one takeaway regarding productivity tools, it remains consistent with my advice from two years ago: prioritize simplicity. With countless apps available that essentially perform similar functions, it’s essential to identify the ones that suit your needs and stick with them. Constantly switching tools due to new updates can hinder your ability to focus on completing tasks.
Remember, quality is more important than quantity. You don't need an array of apps to be productive; a select few that effectively serve your needs will suffice. Once you find the right tools, embrace them and minimize distractions by turning off notifications.
