# Discovering the Divine in Everyday Life Without a Magnifying Glass

Chapter 1: Recognizing the Divine in the Mundane
Have you ever felt uncertain about God's presence in your daily life? Perhaps you believe that experiencing the Divine is reserved for those in high-profile spiritual roles, like Mother Teresa or your local clergy. But is that really the case?
What does this imply for the rest of us? Does it mean you are somehow less significant in God's eyes? And what about those of us who are not called to public ministry? Consider the example of Martha, the sister of Mary, who was so focused on her tasks that she lost sight of the moment's importance.
“Martha was worried about all that had to be done. Finally, she went to Jesus and said, 'Lord, doesn’t it bother you that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her to come and help me!' The Lord answered, 'Martha, Martha! You are worried and upset about so many things, but only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen what is best, and it will not be taken away from her.’” — Luke 10:40-42, CEV
What does this mean for those of you working in various fields—sales, management, housekeeping, or even walking dogs? Does your occupation diminish your ability to perceive God's presence? Absolutely not!
Stop that negative mindset right away. Why? Because every single moment in your day, whether you are a CEO, a homemaker, a writer, or a pet caregiver, offers you an opportunity to connect with God's presence.
Consider the dog walker or nanny, who gazes into the innocent faces of God’s creatures while performing their duties. Those joyful expressions and wagging tails reflect God's love in action.
If you find yourself in a phase of self-doubt, it’s time to take a step back.
Take a moment to create a spiritual pause. Inhale deeply and exhale slowly. Allow your body to relax. Quiet your mind, heart, and soul. As you settle, invite God's presence to fill your thoughts and emotions. Spend a minute or two—or even ten—just being present.
What messages is God whispering to your soul? Write them down as reminders for when you feel doubt creeping back in. Remember, you are meant for more. You have the freedom to embrace your true self and appreciate the unique gifts bestowed upon you.
You are beautiful, kind, intelligent, and exceptional.
Reflection: Identifying Your Spiritual Practices
What activities bring you closer to God? Reflect on the moments when you might overlook His presence. It could be as simple as drinking a glass of water or turning on the faucet.
Putting It Into Practice
In those seemingly mundane activities where you may overlook God, practice being more aware of His presence. For instance, when you drink a glass of water, consider all the people who contributed to making that water accessible—engineers, laborers, and everyone in between. Take a moment to express gratitude for the systems that provide fresh water right to your home.
As you sip, notice the taste. Thank God for the simple goodness of water.
Create a list of daily activities, even the simplest ones like brushing your teeth or flushing the toilet. How does God show up in those everyday moments?
May you always perceive God's presence in every aspect of your life, in every fleeting moment. You are cherished because you truly matter. May your spirit find renewal and refreshment.
