Discovering the Dimensions of Black and Red: A Geometry Challenge
Written on
Chapter 1: Understanding Size and Geometry
When we inquire about the size or height of an object, we inherently leave room for it to be either large or small. Conversely, asking about how small or short something is typically suggests that it must indeed be small or short. What do you think accounts for this difference? While you ponder this, take a moment to tackle a geometry puzzle!
I encourage you to pause here, grab a pen and paper, and give it your best shot. Once you're ready, continue reading for the solution!
This puzzle challenges us to determine the diameter of the outer circle. It's important to observe that the diameters of the two inner circles contribute to the diameter of the outer circle.
To find the radius, we calculate it as 10 divided by 2, which gives us a radius of 5.
Next, to determine the area of the black and red region, we need to subtract the areas of the two inner circles from that of the outer circle.
This results in our final answer.
What an impressive challenge!
How did you approach this problem? I'm eager to hear your thought process in the comments below!
