The Importance of a Fit Body: 3 Compelling Reasons
Written on
Chapter 1: The Initial Impression
What’s the first thing you observe about someone's physique?
When you meet someone, the shape of their body often stands out—whether they appear fit or out of shape, attractive or unattractive. While we know that appearances can be deceiving, society tends to judge based on looks.
Respecting the Physique
Maintaining a fit body communicates discipline, similar to the unwavering dedication of a Queen's Guard at Buckingham Palace. A healthy physique subtly conveys that you care for yourself, showcasing mental strength and resilience. Achieving and maintaining fitness takes time, especially as age progresses and the challenge of preserving youth intensifies.
In my youth, my athletic build was a result of both my age and physical activity. Over the years, while minor changes occurred due to aging, my figure has remained relatively unchanged. However, the respect I receive has evolved. As one matures, the longing for youth often leads to admiration for those who still embody it. In my earlier years, my physique didn’t receive much acknowledgment, as many of my peers were also in their prime. Now, as I navigate my forties with the physique of someone much younger, I can sense the respect in others’ reactions.
You Can Achieve Anything if You’re Fit
Years ago, I was approached by a successful network marketer. His opulent lifestyle was evident from the exotic cars scattered across his property, reminiscent of an "MTV Cribs" episode. We connected on a personal level, and during our conversation, I revealed my modest annual income—something I rarely share. His reaction was telling; he questioned how I managed to live on such a sum at 30 years old. He pointed out that my impressive physique suggested I should be earning more, highlighting a universal truth: even affluent individuals respect those who prioritize fitness.
Success in Appearance
Fitting into your favorite outfit can symbolize success. People tend to perceive those in peak physical condition as more trustworthy, which can be a significant advantage in life. The media often glorifies movie-star appearances, leading to increased influence for those who embody such aesthetics. With a fit body, you’re often held to a higher standard, as society equates physical fitness with attractiveness, which is frequently linked to success.
Reflecting on my past, I recall navigating childhood trauma that left me insecure in my twenties. Despite being in excellent physical shape, I masked my insecurities well. An older colleague once told me, "Eric, you should be our top salesman. You are young, handsome, and articulate." This compliment made me realize how crucial appearance is in professional settings and allowed me to conceal my vulnerabilities more effectively.
The Psychology of Fitness
It’s a hard truth, but people often derive a sense of satisfaction from being admired. Recognizing your physical attractiveness can boost your mental well-being. Deion Sanders, the renowned college football coach, had a mantra: "When you look good, you feel good, you play good, and then you get paid good." I’ve adopted this philosophy in my own life.
While I admit to exercising for some vanity-driven reasons, I understand how judgmental the world can be, and I value my appearance. The quality of my life is significantly influenced by how I care for my body. Acknowledging that society judges us based on looks can serve as motivation to get into the best shape possible. Ultimately, prioritize your health for your own sake, and the benefits will follow.
