Harnessing Your Inner Warrior: 3 Key Principles for Life Training

Written on

Chapter 1: Reconnecting with Your Inner Warrior

Each of us possesses an inner warrior, a part of ourselves that is ready to stand up for what is just. It’s that voice urging you to express your feelings in uncomfortable situations, fueled by a vibrant energy of passion and assertiveness. However, in today's world of convenience and comfort, many have lost touch with this warrior within.

We've inadvertently surrendered our strength to external influences—be it relationships or societal expectations. This often happens without conscious choice; we naturally gravitate towards harmony, avoiding conflict. Yet, voicing our true feelings and establishing a firm foundation can be significantly more challenging.

To reclaim your inner warrior, consider these core principles.

Section 1.1: Integrity

What is a person without alignment between their words and actions?

Frederick Douglass once said, “I prefer to be true to myself, even at the hazard of incurring the ridicule of others, rather than to be false, and incur my own abhorrence.” Integrity is crucial for an empowered existence, representing wholeness and unity. When you align with your integrity, you tap into an unassailable power.

To awaken your inner warrior, reflect on where you might be misaligned with your integrity. Are your thoughts, words, and actions congruent?

Many people, myself included, struggle with integrity. I've often envisioned grand plans only to abandon them shortly after. Procrastination has been a familiar companion, leading to cycles of frustration and disappointment.

If I couldn't trust myself to meet simple deadlines, how could I expect to achieve larger goals? The quote, “How you do one thing is how you do everything,” resonates deeply here. Integrity begins with small tasks—making your bed, doing the dishes, or following through on commitments.

Are you completing your daily tasks? Did you make that phone call you promised? Are you sticking to your morning routine, or does it falter at the slightest challenge? Reconnecting with your integrity starts by honoring your word to yourself. It doesn’t need to be complicated; focus on small, daily actions and persist even when motivation wanes.

Subsection 1.1.1: The Power of Integrity

Section 1.2: Discipline

While integrity serves as your foundation, discipline is the path you tread upon it. It embodies the consistent actions that either uphold or undermine your integrity.

Stephen King aptly stated, “Discipline and constant work are the whetstones upon which the dull knife of talent is honed until it becomes sharp enough, hopefully, to cut through even the toughest meat and gristle.”

Being out of sync with integrity complicates discipline. Often, the term “discipline” carries negative connotations, evoking thoughts of punishment or obedience. In its highest form, however, it is none of those.

True discipline is driven by a potent "why." Although the journey may not become easier, it can feel more instinctive once you understand your purpose. For instance, you abstain from unhealthy habits not just to avoid them, but to enhance your well-being and unleash your best self.

Strong discipline cultivates a stronger version of you and ignites your inner warrior.

Chapter 2: Consistency

Having established your foundation of integrity, you're now learning to keep your promises to yourself—whether they involve simple tasks, medium-sized projects, or significant undertakings.

Think of two ladders side by side: one with widely spaced rungs and the other with evenly spaced rungs. Which one is easier to climb?

One step at a time.

Discipline is built with every step you take in alignment with your integrity. This process is amplified when you are clear about your motivations.

Ultimately, consistency is about creating momentum through repetition.

James Clear once noted, “I accumulated small but consistent habits that ultimately led to results that were unimaginable when I started.”

Training as a warrior involves recognizing the strength in performing small, simple, repetitive actions with unwavering consistency. Mastery of any skill requires time and persistence.

You don’t earn a black belt in martial arts overnight, nor do you become a sharpshooter after one day at the range. Achieving a state of calm and clear discernment requires ongoing practice, not just a few sessions of meditation.

Consistency is the key to unlocking any goal you set your sights on. When you apply consistent effort toward developing a skill or quality, you'll either see results or discover areas for improvement—both of which are valuable insights.

Being a warrior means embracing every facet of yourself, respecting all parts equally, as they collectively form your being.

The journey of training as a warrior in your life is an integrative approach encompassing these three principles. Of course, this framework can expand indefinitely, yet transformation occurs step by step.

Training as a warrior begins with a mindset shift.

Every aspect of your life serves as a dojo for practice—your relationships, daily responsibilities, work, creativity, and health. Each moment is an opportunity to be more intentional, focused, and clear about the life you’re living and the purpose you’re meant to fulfill.

This awareness won’t manifest in a singular epiphany; it requires daily commitment to bring it to fruition. If this sounds overwhelming, reflect on what the alternative might be.

Consider this your invitation to embrace a more awakened life.
