Exploring the Nature of Heaven and Its Impact on Our Lives

Written on

Chapter 1: What is Heaven?

What if our understanding of heaven is not as straightforward as we think? The tranquility we associate with heaven can touch us at any moment.

Concept of heaven as a state of being

Consider the possibility that heaven isn't merely a destination after death, but rather a state of existence—an emotional sanctuary within us. Recently, I participated in my weekly morning study group on A Course In Miracles, where the focus was on the notion of heaven.

For those unfamiliar with A Course In Miracles, some of these thoughts might initially seem unconventional. However, I invite you to explore this concept with me for a moment.

Imagine heaven as an embodiment of:

  • Love
  • Innocence
  • Healing
  • Forgiveness
  • Resurrection

Now, picture heaven as a choice we can make in our lives. We have the power to select our heaven—or, conversely, our hell.

According to Lesson 138 of the workbook, it states:

"Heaven is the decision I must make. I make it now and will not change my mind, because it is the only thing I want."

When we consciously choose heaven, we can navigate through any challenging situation and still opt for a more uplifting perspective. This choice allows us to experience a transformation, elevating our consciousness and aligning us with love, peace, and innocence.

Each day, we face choices between love and fear, guilt and innocence, right and wrong, and the list goes on. We can either view the world through the lens of love or through our rigid perceptions. To recognize which perspective we are adopting, we must become attuned to our behavior and mindset in various situations in life.

By inviting love into every scenario, we also bring truth along with it. This shift in perspective allows us to see circumstances through a different lens. As Wayne Dyer wisely noted, when we alter our viewpoint, the things we observe begin to change.

Towards the conclusion of our class today, our instructor shared a powerful insight that provided me with a sense of peace and a potential resolution to life's challenges. She stated: "The heaven in us can hold the hell."

This revelation sparked an awakening within me; if heaven represents love, then love becomes our savior and the bridge to all solutions. Love is the answer.

So, in moments of error—whether mine or yours—let’s strive to welcome grace and allow ourselves to be embraced by love, rather than falling prey to criticism or judgment.

Instead of succumbing to the internal critic that berates us for our mistakes, let’s engage with ourselves from a place of love, inhaling peace and trusting that everything is as it should be, ultimately working out for the highest good of all.

Chapter 2: The Role of Love in Our Choices

In this enlightening video, Robert Watson discusses the misconceptions surrounding heaven and hell, encouraging us to rethink these concepts in a more profound way.

This thought-provoking video delves into the question: If heaven exists, why weren't we born there? It prompts us to reflect on the nature of our existence and the choices we make.
