Embracing Astrology: Beyond Superstitions and Towards Growth

Chapter 1: Understanding Astrological Perceptions
Astrology often comes with a plethora of opinions regarding what is deemed favorable or unfavorable, whether it pertains to planetary placements, aspects, or timing. But can we truly label any moment as inherently bad? Or is every occurrence part of a grand cosmic design that has unfolded throughout history? By finding significance in even our darkest periods, we can illuminate our paths and embrace the limitless possibilities that await us.
When we succumb to superstitions, we project specific energies into the universe. While there are indeed astrological patterns that may suggest beneficial or challenging influences, these generalizations should not be taken too personally unless one has a deep understanding of their own astrology. Additionally, what may be beneficial for one person could be detrimental for another, echoing the wisdom of old sayings like "too much of a good thing" or "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."
Our personal perceptions can transform this energy into a subjective experience. A naturally pessimistic viewpoint may obscure the positive potential present in certain situations. For instance, if a family member instilled fears about venturing out during a Full Moon, you might find yourself carrying that anxiety, albeit it could also correlate with a genuine astrological sensitivity to that lunar phase.
Though often dismissed, old wives' tales and superstitions may hold elements of truth worth exploring over time rather than judging them based on a single event. Take Mercury retrograde, for instance. With three to four occurrences each year lasting about three weeks (not including shadow periods), countless individuals have been born during these seemingly unfavorable periods. Many of these individuals may navigate Mercury retrograde with grace or possess an innate understanding of its effects, presenting opportunities for personal growth if one looks deeper into their individual astrology.
An astrological superstition that I find particularly unfounded is the notion of the void-of-course Moon, which suggests a hindrance to manifestation. I entered into marriage during such a phase, with the Moon in Scorpio, reflecting the energy of its last significant aspect: a trine to Mercury. Did our marriage falter? Absolutely not — we have thrived together for five years, and in my view, anything beyond an annulment is a success. Is it unproductive? Far from it; we continue to evolve and grow from our partnership. Is it devoid of emotion? Not in the least. In fact, the emotional stability within our marriage mirrors the wisdom of Scorpio, especially as the Moon approaches the latter degrees of the sign.
Is this knowledge irrelevant? Perhaps in the realm of natal charts, but who are we to judge? It can be thoughtless to imply that anyone's life has missed its purpose, even if we may occasionally think so ourselves (as I do when reflecting on my father's lunar eclipse). This brings us back to the significance of Full Moons, during which we become particularly attuned to the spirit realm. The energy during this time can awaken truths from our subconscious if we are not aligned with the cyclical nature of the Moon.
While astrology can pave the way for self-discovery, it can also impose limiting labels on our experiences. Living without the burden of cosmic influence can be liberating. Individuals unaffected by astrological timing can take action without questioning whether their choices align with planetary support — they simply live. Life is about experiencing both triumphs and setbacks, and it would be rather monotonous without challenges that foster resilience and meaning (a sentiment echoed by Scorpio).
Hard aspects in a natal chart often drive more profound personal growth than the easier ones. My own life, marked by natal squares, is a testament to this, with challenges pushing me forward long before I viewed my journey through an astrological lens. Interestingly, I too have a natal Mercury retrograde.
While some may perceive my circumstances as unfortunate, I cherish the life I have. Let’s anticipate the learning opportunities that lie ahead, especially with the upcoming Mercury Retrograde in Aries starting April 1.
